Welcome to our very first Playa Real’s Newsletter.  In this section, we’ll try to keep you updated on the latest events that are happening in dear old Playa del Carmen, as well as offer you the Property of the Month!  So be sure to come back frequently to stay updated on the news.

On the social news, Playa del Carmen continues to be on the map, now to be the host of the eighth Annual Jazz Festival, and thus being named as “Mexico’s most fashionable getaway” by Conde Nast magazine.    We just recently had an Advance Concert with Phil Perry and Brian McKnight to Kick-off the Festival.  The Riviera Maya announces an impressive line-up of international jazz musicians at the 2010 Jazz Festival, which will take place in November 25th thru 28th.  Among the guest musicians list are Herbie Hancock, George Duke,  Kool and the Gang, Gino Vanelli, Pat Martino, Sergio Mendes, The Tower of Power, John MacLaughlin, Fourplay and George Benson, as well as providing the local jazz musicians with a great opportunity to show-off their talent.   The Riviera Maya Jazz Festival is free and open to all public, so don’t miss it!

Tulum Airport Plan

President Felipe Calderón endorsed airport plan in Tulum and called for it to move forward.  This bit of news caused a frenzy of increased prices in Tulum property, and the rumors of the Tulum airport were once more jump started.  However, for those of us that have been hearing about this airport for the past 15 years, we’ll believe it when the airplanes start landing and taking off!

Whale Sharks in Mexico!

Whale Shark Swimming Season is here!  The half-day tour begins around 7am with a pickup at your hotel on a luxury van that will take you to Punta Sam, where you will get coffee and a briefing of the tour.  The boat ride takes about 45 minutes, after which you’ll be able to jump into the water and a professional guide will assist you in swimming with these enormous and incredibly docile creatures.  The trip ends with some snorkeling at a reef near Isla Contoy, after which you will be returned to your hotel around 2pm.    Or go for the full-day tour in Holbox, starting at 6am and ending at 6-6.30 pm, it also includes lunch.  This tour lasts only thru September!

As tourism steadily increases in the area, Xcaret Group recently opened last year their third natural theme park, Xplor.  With a 22-million dollar investment, this park is especially designed for extreme adventure lovers.   The brand new 50-hectare complex features an underground river with stalactites, water caves and cenotes for rafting, the longest zip-line in Mexico with an extension of over 500m, and journeys in amphibian vehicles throughout the jungle.

Beautiful new beaches in Playa!  The governent finally put it together and pumped some of that white, powdery sand we all love onto our beaches.  Definitely worth checking out!
